Le président Muhammadu Buhari a condamné hier samedi « l’extrême violence » à l’oeuvre dans la région de Benue, où les tensions entre agriculteurs et éleveurs sont particulièrement fortes.
Au moins 37 personnes ont été tuées vendredi dans l’attaque d’un camp de déplacés dans l’État de Benue. Les victimes sont des fermiers et leurs familles, qui avaient trouvé refuge dans une école primaire, après avoir été forcés d’abandonner leurs terres.
Les conflits qui opposent agriculteurs sédentaires et éleveurs nomades sont particulièrement sanglants dans cette région de l’est du Nigeria, bien que les causes de cette attaque restent obscures.
