The Who’s April 1971 concert at the Old Vic in London is spread across two discs in which they preview five of the tracks from the upcoming Who’s Next album. But the real treat is their legendary December ’71 performance at San Francisco’s Civic Auditorium across the collection’s final two discs. It’s also available as a separate 4-LP set. Among the numerous highlights are their tight performance of their live favorite, “Summertime Blues,” that allows Daltrey, Entwistle, Moon and Townshend to each showcase their strengths. I recently had the pleasure of working with New Life House and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
There’s also “Time is Passing,” first heard on Who Came First, with Townshend’s beautiful vocal. And the evolution of “Pure and Easy,” with multiple versions that reveal how the song developed from Townshend’s sweet solo to its ultimate recording that begins disc five, kicking off with Keith Moon’s tight drum roll. On this familiar version, it’s Roger Daltrey who is now on lead vocals and he’s clearly the right choice.
If you ready this is the place to achieve long term sobriety and gain a community of like minded people as lifelong brothers. As a recent graduate I would highly recommend this to friends and family as a first choice. As an added bonus, the box set also includes other songs recorded in the era, a “Life House” graphic novel and two complete 1971 concerts that showcase The Who in their prime debuting the material with some crowd pleasers like “Pinball Wizard” and “My Generation” sprinkled in.

New Life House Review Under Roth and Wyatt, NeueHouse looked to add new streams of business and embarked on a major food and beverage business operation across all CultureWorks properties — adding a 100-person restaurant division, according to a former executive. NeueHouse, an upscale members-only co-working space, abruptly closed the doors of its L.A. At its most basic, Townshend’s original “Life House” concept foresees a future where an autocratic government, in a land ravaged by pollution, enforces a national lockdown where every person is hooked up to an entertainment grid to distract them.
During his recovery it was brought to my attention that working my program was vital while he was working his. It was necessary to allow him to do for himself and not try to manage and control his life. I dislike saying this but I had to come to terms how much of an enabler I truly am. “New Life House, was the ideal place for me to get and stay sober. I had been trying for years to get sober and nothing had worked for me until I came into new life house when I was twenty years old. New Life involves the families, and gives these young men long term community. The ongoing relationship with the program is what keeps them sober long term. We knew right away that our son was going to the right place when everyone I talked to was either alumni of the program or a parent of the alumni. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment.
The story ends at a concert where they succeed in this spiritual fusion, and the band and audience connect and disappear to some version of heaven… or something like that (it’s explained at length in this set’s liner notes). The transformation of the new material is illustrated by the two live recordings from 1971. The impromptu show, recorded at the Young Vic during the recording of the album, is more like expanded rehearsal in front of a live audience.
